The Seanchie Family News

It is with Deepest Sympathy that We Announce the Passing of Robert John Schneider, Sr.

Robert John Schneider, Sr. Born December 2, 1934, passed October 27th, 2005. Born to Mary Houlihan Schneider and F. Schneider. Married in 1962 to Virginia Farat Schneider. He was the wonderful father of three children: Robert John Schneider Jr., Rebecca Lynn Schneider, and Ryan Patrick Schneider. After spending a great portion of his life in Connecticut and New England, he relocated to Humble, Texas with his family. Robert's occupation was Marine Surveys. Robert spent a great many years traveling around the world, safisfying his love of people and travel. Everyone who met him knew he was special, and he will be greatly missed by all. In his older years, after his stroke, he was lucky enough to have children who could tend to him. Special thanks goes out to RJ, Jr., who cared for him at home for over 5 years. Due to RJ's love of his father, Dad never had to go to a nursing home, or be cared for by strangers. It takes a big man to make such a sacrifice. He leaves his three children, his grandchildren Katie Ann Colburn and Stephan "Todd" Gibson, Jr., his sisters Ellen, Frances and Paula, and numerous neices, nephews and cousins. We are all better off to have known him.

Jack Ryder,
WOW!!, that is an incredible list! once again pop
and I went through the list and (with pop's help) we decifered the family
tree to some degree of success. I still don't understand what "twice" or
"three times removed" actualy means (chuckle). The site you sent us is
amazing and we enjoy seeing our family. It brings back alot of memories
( and stories ) for pop. Found a cool site on google and will send you the
web address. http://www.cyclopedia-ireland.com/literature.html

Thank you Cousin,
pop & rj

I received this email from Kevin Ryder on Friday, January 18, 2002 10:18 AM:[ EST] Hamden/ New Haven Ct.
Jack, I was looking at your tribute to Aunt Helen, "The Seanchie", and found it truly a wonderful piece of work. I often think of her and still, after all this time, miss her. She really loved our family. As for your shots of the 2001 Christmas bash at the Barbarians, I think there were too many shots of the foreigners from Rhode Island and not enough photos of the beautiful people from CT. See you soon Kev.

Rebecca Lynn Gibson Writes on Sat 1/19/02 11:10 PM : Well, if you are reading this letter then it seem we all survivied the Holiday flu together. As a lot of you know, our Holiday's were spent with Lynn and Norma and were just wonderful. We got to see all the family on either Christmas Eve or Christmas day. Lucky Jonathan won the bouncy head dog ornament for the back window of his car during our Chinese Christmas celebration. He enjoyed it so much, he says he'll be mounting it in his vehicle.

On the Seguin homefront:

Katie is doing well. She has quit ROTC (for reasons we can't get any clarity on) and wants to join the track team. That would be fun for her.

I quit working for the DA and went into business for myself. I'm really enjoying it. We are now Gibson & Gibson, Attorneys at Law.

Todd's practice is doing great, and he is still enjoying being his own boss. He is in Rotan this weekend, taking a friend hunting. They didn't get anything today, but tomorrow is still open.

Baby Todd is walking great right now, sprinting when the mood strikes him. He is graduating to real food, we are soooo excited. He just started refusing baby cereal Wednesday and demanding some of our waffles. So far, he loves waffles, and he isn't too keen on toasted cheese. He's learned to say cookie, and whines and growls along with the Dogs when they are stressed.

Lady, our big dog, tore a ligament in her knee. The doctor has dispensed the usual time worn one liners like "keep her quiet" "no running or jumping" "don't let her walk on uneven surfaces", and gave us pills the size of dimes to get down her throat. She seems to be limping so much better than Wednesday. She has four weeks to recover on her own, or it's surgery. We're hoping for a home recovery.

If ya'll keep up with the national headlines, we have the distinction in Seguin of having the trial of the Jeweler Killer. Seems a Jewel dealer from New York with a lot of money and connections was killed by one of our hometown Jewelers. It will probably grab headlines because his disappearance made the national news, until he was found six feet down in the Seguin Jeweler's yard. As far as I know, you can anticipate the defense of Steroid Induced Anger, known as "roid rage". He'll probably allege that he bought the drugs in Mx. where you don't need a prescription. Seems that he was a regular down at the fitness club where everyone works out, so he might try to pull it off. Ought to be interesting. I'm hoping that trial comes up in the next couple of months.

And, of course, right down the I35 corridor, in San Marcos, the Repulic of Texas freak who killed Trooper Vetter over a traffic ticket, was found competent to stand trial on Thursday, despite his protestations that he is the Antichrist, and God told him to kill. He's in his 70's. They'll be trying that case with the death penalty at stake.

Otherwise, things are hum drum here. Just wanted to update family and friends on current events surrounding the Gibsons. We miss and love you all!

Love
Rebecca

Sequin[ red star] is where Rebecca and her husband Todd work. She and her family live in McQueeney, TX. "McQueeney is half way in between Seguin and New Braunfels. We live on Treasure Island, a neighborhood that was created when the Guadalupe River was dammed, and Lake McQueeney was created."

First cousins Mikie and Helen M Houlihan in front of the schoolhouse set built for the movie Ryan's Daughter. c. 1975

Michael Houlihan (Oct. 10, 1910 - Nov.19, 2000) died Sunday November19, 2000 shortly after noon mass. He was a gentle man of great wit and a keen observer of human nature. Mikie was well known in the Dingle area. He was a bachelor who worked for many years in Dingle as the grounds keeper/ caretaker / custodian at St. Joseph's Monastery and elementary school. As a younger man he often hired himself out to local farmers to help with planting and harvest.

Whenever I would come to Dingle it was easy to find him. I would walk past the shops on Upper Goat Street and when I came to the Holy Stone take a right onto Chapel Lane. I'd stop at the light blue row house. The one with no grass for a front yard, only tall beautiful pink hydrangeas. Mikie would welcome me into his home and over the course of my stay take me on Dingle tours showing me places that most tourist would never see. Along the way we would stop at a pub or two and without fail the proprietor or the barkeep would call out "And how's Mikie?" It may have been several years since he had been there last. Another time I remember him telling me how his Uncle Patrick [my grandfather] went over to America and while in America married Mary Hannifin. " I suppose they went to America because they wanted a big show [marriage] " said he with a soft chuckle.

You know I never left Dingle without Mikie giving me a gift and wishing me "all the best". Michael's nephews are the Bishko brothers: Andy, Tommy and Brian.
I will miss Mikie with all his wit and gentle Irish charm for we will not see his like again.
