This is modern Ventry. The picture was taken in the early 1990's.

Uncle John Houlihan at the Hannifin home in Emlaghslat. Mikey Houlhan said that it was in its day a fine house that was white washed 2 or 3 times a year. He also said the older part of the house upon which John is leaning may be as much as 400 years old.

This is a picture of Ventry, Co. Kerry Ireland taken about 1900. I imagine it wasn't much, if any different, than in 1885 when Patrick Houlihan and Mary Hannifin lived a few miles down the road in Emlaghslat.( Patrick lived in Dingle Town for some years so I'm not actually certain he was Emlaghslat in 1885.)

Here is a link to the current weather conditions in the major cities of Ireland.

Cloghane, Co. Kerry.(just over the Connor Pass from Dingle) This the same view we had from the living room of our rented house in Cloghane, Co. Kerry when the Jack Ryder Family visited Ireland for two weeks in June of 2000. Cloghane is as close to "Brigadoon " as it gets.
